Free DDS Converter is a simple to use image converter that can help you to easily convert DirectDraw Surface (DDS) images to other common image formats.

Free DDS Converter can convert DDS images to JPG/JPEG, PNG, BMP, TIF/TIFF and GIF image formats.

How to Use

Free DDS Converter has been designed to be very simple to use, you can add single or multiple files by clicking the "Add Files" button and select the DDS files you want to convert or you can add a whole folder of DDS files by clicking the "Add Folder" button, this will load all DDS files found in the folder.

The Output folder can be set by clicking the "Browse" button and selecting a folder path, all files from all locations will be saved into this folder, if you leave this field blank then each file will be converted and saved in the source folder of the DDS file.

The output format can be set by clicking the desired option button "JPG/JPEG, PNG, BMP, TIF/TIFF, or GIF".

Once you have all your files loaded, output folder and format set you simply click the "Convert" button and the conversion process will start.

By Default, if the output file already exists then it is not created again, to overwrite existing files mark the "Automatically Overwrite" checkbox.

About DDS Image Format

DDS is the abbreviation of DirectDraw Surface, it is an image compression format (DirectX Texture Compression, referred DXTC). There are three kinds of DXTC formats available, includes DXT1, DXT3, and DXT5. Now, this format is widely supported by the majority of 3D graphics hardware, and be used in many 3D software and games.
